- After Joey Styles’ departure last week, the WWE have predictably reinstated Jim Ross to the announce team. Styles is set to be the full-time announcer on the new ECW brand that is expected to start later this year. Last night was JR’s first RAW commentary since he was ‘fired’ on October 10th. ……. Coach has been removed from the announce team, and is expected to return with a ‘new age’ character. He will more than likely be used as a manager.
- WWE.com has announced a real bust-up between Batista and Booker T at the shoot for SummerSlam commercials. It has been reported that the fight had to be broken up by many superstars, including JBL, Chris Benoit, Mark Henry, and Finlay. Both men were supposedly bruised and bloodied afterwards, but were trying to resolve the issue behind closed doors. It is presumed that this is in kayfabe, and that Batista will feud with Booker T on his return, although this has not been confirmed yet.
- Rumours have it that WWE have informally contacted Jeff Hardy about a potential return this summer. As usual, most news sites have falsely claimed that the WWE have warned Jeff about his ‘drugs problems’. The real issue will be Jeff’s motivation, and his desire to wrestle on the road for 300 days a year.
- Jimmy ‘Akio’ Yang has re-signed with the WWE after competing against Charlie Haas in a match on last week’s Heat. Akio is often praised for being a very good worker, but he was released in July 2005 as the creative team had nothing for him.
- Finlay is set to be getting a midget wrestler to play his leprechaun. There has been no information on who will be playing the role, but it sure to be entertaining to have the leprechaun accompanying Finlay to the ring.
- Charlie Hass and his wife Jackie Gayda are expecting their first child.
- SmackDown! General Manager Teddy Long has announced a WWE tag team title match at Judgment Day between MNM vs London & Kendrick.
- In a logical (?) decision by Vince McMahon, Triple H has been rewarded for his defiance with a WWE title shot this Monday on RAW. This should be the final decider on who it will be facing RVD at ECW One Night Stand.
- The WWE have signed Nikita, a female wrestler from the UK. She will be moving to USA soon and is expected to work at a WWE developmental farm, either DSW or OVW.
- So called ‘SPOILERS’ have been found in advertisements for the next RAW PPV Vengeance, claiming the DX will re-unite on the show. This is in response to the not so subtle hints being dropped by Triple H and Shawn Michaels almost every week.
- The Great Khali only had one official match on the WWE’s European tour, despite it being designed to get him much needed ring experience. He mainly just came to the ring and beat up cruiserweights instead. His one match was against Matt Hardy, and the conclusion is – it must have been terrible!
- Oleg Prudius made his debut last week at a RAW house show against Rob Conway. Jeff Jarrett advised the WWE to sign this giant – and now we know why! His ring skills were apparently dreadful, and the fans started a “BORING” chant that lasted throughout the match.
- Finally, Jim Cornette has signed for TNA this week. Cornette was fired by WWE last year as the head of Ohio Valley Wrestling, for slapping about one of the wrestlers after he had laughed during a segment with the Boogeyman (instead of being scared of that looney). Cornette is experienced as a manager, but could be used as a General Manager-type character as well.
That’s all for this week – the Weekly Newsletter will be back next Wednesday.
